WCS-Congo > Conservation Strategies > Wildlife Health

WCS-Congo field staff are benefiting from partnerships established with experts based elsewhere in the world. One such partnership exists with WCS’s Field Veterinary Program, supported by the Wildlife Health Center at the Bronx Zoo, which has become an integral part of WCS-Congo wildlife health monitoring program.

On-site national laboratory facilities have been developed at the Bomassa headquarters of the Nouabalé-Ndoki national park, and a laboratory technician is now able to analyse samples taken from animals in the wild. Routine monitoring of the health status of apes and other animals will be combined with targeted studies on human and wildlife health issues andemergency response protocols and contingency plans will be developed to enable field staff to react quickly to wildlife disease epidemics.
