Vegetation

The main forest types of the Park are mixed Sterculiaceae-Ulmaceae semideciduous forest with large patches of monodominant Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest and swamp forests along most of the main rivers, especially in the south of the Park. The Gilbertiodendron forest also occurs in large patches on the interfluvial plateau within the Park.

The main vegetation types within the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park can be classed broadly as follows:

  • Mixed humid forest of terra firma, which can be open or closed canopy;
  • Vine forest;
  • Gilbertiodendron dewevrei monodominant forest with or without a Haumania dankelmaniana understorey;
  • Flooded Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest;
  • Flooded forest;
  • Swamp;
  • Clearings ('bais').

Mixed terra firma forest is the vegetation type that covers the greatest surface area of the Park, with monodominant Glbertiodendron forest covering approximately 25%.
