Bomassa Triangle

As forestry exploition moves into areas only a few kilometers from the boundaries of the NNNP, the potential negative impacts of logging for the NNNP are set to increase in the coming years. Two zones are currently of particular importance. The first is the 'Bomassa Triangle', which borders the southwest corner of the NNNP and includes the Bomassa headquarters of the Nouabalé-Ndoki Project and neighboring village/hunting zones as well as the pristine Djeke Triangle, home to a group of western gorillas that have been habituated to the presence of humans, initially for research but now with a view to developing ecotourism. The second area of importance is the eastern zone of the NNNP surrounding the projected Public Access Road No. 2 in the Loundougou logging concession, passing less than 10km from the southeast border of the NNNP.

Once exploitation in the Bomassa Triangle has been completed in 2009, the uninhabited area north of the Djeke river will be classed as part of the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park, while the rest of the zone will become a community reserve.
