Goualougo Triangle Chimpanzee Study
The Goualougo Triangle Chimpanzee Study aims to enhance our knowledge of the central subspecies of chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes troglodytes) and improve their conservation status throughout the Congo Basin. This goal will be achieved through a long-term site-based conservation and research program which documents the social structure and ecology of the chimpanzee population.
The Goualougo Triangle Chimpanzee Study is also monitoring the densities of chimpanzees and gorillas in the Goualougo Triangle, improving survey methods to estimate ape abundance in the region, and documenting the effect of timber exploitation on chimpanzees residing in the portion of the study area which remains in an active logging concession.
