Funding
All WCS-Congo conservation activities are implemented by experts Wildlife Conservation Society working in partnership with agents from the Congo Government's Ministry of Forestry Economy and the Environment.
In addition to funding from WCS and the MEFE, these initiatives are supported by many additional donors and partners. All our projects are funded by USAID's Central Africa Program for the Environment (CARPE) under the Congo Basin Forest Partnership initiative (CBFP). The CBFP promotes conservation activities in 11 landscapes across Central Africa by working with a range of government and non government organizations to conserve biodiversity and promote sustainable land use practices.
The Central African World Heritage Forest Initiative is supporting many of the activities implemented at the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park and the Conkouati-Douli National Park. Nouabale-Ndoki and the adjacent protected areas of the TNS will eventually be proposed to UNESCO for creation as a World Heritage site.
The US Fish & Wildlife Service also supports conservation at several sites in Congo through the Great Ape and African Elephant conservation funds, particularly in areas such as applied research, landscape monitoring, wildlife protection, and conservation education.
Other supporting organisations include the Fonds Francais pour l'Environnement Mondial, International Tropical Timber Organisation (Switzerland, Japan, USA, and France), US State Department (ESF funding), Liz Claiborne Art Ortenberg Foundation, National Geographic Society, Ramsar, the US Embassy, Columbus Zoo and many other zoological parks in the US.
