WCS-Congo is also working with NGOs and community-based organizations to increase and reinforce civil society capacity to influence forest management issues and conservation.
Local NGO partners, the Association for the Protection of Tropical Ecosystems and Development of the Sangha Department (APTEDS), works with WCS to promote environmental education in the Sangha department's capital, Ouesso. APTEDS also focuses on areas such as the provision of protein sources such as domestic beef as an alternative to bushmeat.
Conservation de la Faune Congolaise (CFC) is a local NGO focusing on planning and implementing activities in Lac Télé Community Reserve and its periphery, through providing alternative livelihoods and raising awareness of conservation problems. WCS-Congo has incorporated CFC into training programs and in collaboration on activities such as bushmeat and fisheries monitoring.
