Education, Outreach & Alternative Protein Sources
A conservation awareness campaign communicating wildlife conservation and management principles is being undertaken in the Kabo, Pokola, Toukoulaka and western Loundougou concessions.
A curriculum for protected species education at the primary school level has been developed and implemented in the Kabo and Pokola primary schools and regional workshops for local primary educators working in CIB concessions established the base for expansion of the program.
Television documentaries produced in collaboration with Congo TV on natural resource use, wildlife management/conservation, and elephant conservation are aired on regional and national TV increasing the level of understanding of the wildlife management being implemented in the concessions. Pilot projects in alternative protein provision (i.e., beef importation, fish culture, animal husbandry) have been initiated in the village of Kabo, other villages in the Kabo and Pokola concessions, and in association with CIB at the Pokola town site.
