Law Enforcement Training

Upon recruitment, all Ecoguards take part in an initial eight-week training course at the Kabo Law Enforcement Training Center run by PROGEPP. In addition, experience Ecoguards partipate in four-week 'refresher' courses each year.

The training sessions are conducted by three senior military officers from the regional military authority. The sessions are organized around eight modules designed to develop physical endurance and strength, team-building skills, military tactics and techniques, field techniques and orienteering, as well as civil and legal training. The latter is coordinated by staff from PROGEPP, and includes sections on wildlife law, wildlife management, awareness raising, logistics and administration, and navigation using GPS units. Most recently, a module on human rights and community relations has been added to teach Ecoguards how to interact with local people.
