Human-hippo Conflict
The Lac Télé educators went to the south of the Lac Télé area to mitigate a human-hippo conflict in the village of Bouanela on 17 June 2007. The delegation, which included the government staff, assessed the damage caused by the hippos and suggested to local communities ways and means of living together with hippos.
According to testimonies, the last specimen was killed in the early 1970’s. It is thought that the return of hippos in the Lac Tele area is a result of increased conservation efforts in the region.
