Workshop for the Great Ape Health Monitoring Network

WCS Congo and Field Vet program held a second coordination meeting on the TNS great ape health monitoring network between the 24th and 25th May at the Bomassa headquarters of the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park. The meeting evaluated progress on coordinating health activities and monitoring in the Sangha Trinational Zone, highlighting areas for improvement and addressing new issues regarding disease monitoring, surveillance and research.

Specifically, the meeting addressed issues such as protocols for carcass sampling, the implementation of a mortality surveillance database for the TNS, visual health monitoring and the clarification and development of preventative protocols for WCS-Congo and other staff working in the field. Representatives from field sites across the Sangha Trinational Zone (Congo, Cameroon, Central African Republic) attended the workshop.
