Ecotourism in 2006
Nine groups of tourists from four different international tour operators visited Nouabalé-Ndoki between July and September 2006, making up a total of almost 100 clients in just over two months.
In 2005 sustainable accommodation structures replaced tented accommodation at Mbeli camp, and the camp now boasts four wooden cabins with impressive views of the forest canopy. These bungalows can withstand harsh forest conditions and climate, providing increased levels of comfort for visitors. Dedicated local tourism guides and staff have now also been trained in also aspects of visitor and hotel management. At the same time, important contacts were established with several international and national tour operators, and the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park is now part of a transboundary tourism circuit that includes the Dzanga-Sangha Reserve (Central African Republic).
The simultaneous expansion of national tourism activities, particularly involving employees of local forestry companies, means visitor levels at the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park will be higher than ever before in 2007.
