Workshop on Forest Elephants and Bais in the Congo Basin
Financed by US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and organized by WCS-Congo, a workshop was held in Brazzaville on ‘‘Forest Elephants and Bais : Developing a Strategy for World Class Research and High Efficiency Conservation at Critical Sites in the Congo Basin.’’
Led by Thomas BREUER (Mbeli Bai principal researcher, Nouabale-Ndoki) and Paul TELFER (WCS-Congo Director), the workshop was attended by twenty-five researchers and conservationists from WCS, WWF, Congolese Ministry of Forestry, ACP-FORENET, universities of Berkeley, Cornell, Missouri, and Stirling and from various countries. For two weeks, experts focused on setting standards on research methodologies on Bais with a view to meeting conservation constraints. A scientific guide was initiated as a result of this.
More to come soon.
