Long-term Mentoring

Congolese staff work alongside WCS experts at all WCS-Congo field sites to ensure that a cadre of well-qualified, experienced wildlife and protected area managers and administrators develop to take over the management of the country's natural resources.

The most effective approach to helping local and national wildlife and protected area managers acquire the skills that are necessary to plan strategically and to make effective day-to-day administrative and management decisions is through long-term mentoring. Local and national conservation staff are encouraged to take positions where they have both the authority to make decisions for which they are responsible, and the consistent and timely technical support they need to help them learn the business of conservation.
