Objectives of a Management Plan
The principal objective of a management plan is to guarantee the rational management of the forest's resources so that a given FMU is able to provide a sustainable supply of timber, while simultaneously protecting the environment and ensuring the protection of biodiversity. Exploitation activities should not compromise the FMU's capacity to produce a long-term supply of profitable timber, and should particularly not prevent regeneration of exploited forest.
In addition to regulating activities such as timber extraction, the management plan should also ensure that forestry exploitation contributes to social development at the local and national level and include wildlife conservation and sustainable hunting management components This includes respecting the rights of all stakeholders and local populations, contributing to the well-being of the employees of the company and local residents, reducing poverty and contributing to the creation of employment.
